About the Author

The author of Hey, You Never Know, Robert Newman, was born and raised in Detroit. After serving in the United States Merchant Marine Cadet Corps, he graduated from the the University of Michigan and moved to New York City. While his book is not an autobiography, Newman incorporates personal experiences into his writing. He says, “My book is littered with true stories that are the basis of fictional episodes. My family is constantly asking, “Really, did that really happen?” And I smile and shrug, and say, Sort of. But the most important real event that influenced my plot is a lucky romance in my older years that proves that the title of the book is accurate.” “My mother lived her last rather lonely years in a senior residence,” states Newman. “The genesis of Hey, You Never Know was a desire to recreate her life and give her a happy ending.. even finding love. I worked backwards from there.”
Mr. Newman worked as a writer and editor most of his adult life, and eventually became head of medical publication for a pharmaceutical advertising company. He founded Comedica, a medical communications company, where he remained at the helm until 1997. Mr. Newman has published numerous magazine articles and a biography of Grace Kelly, in addition to a volume of poems. Hey, You Never Know is Newman’s first full-length literary work.
